Q: What breed do I need to join SPPHASA?

A: You need a Standardbred. (Please refer to The Breed page)

 

How to get Started

Q: What will I need for my horse?

A: You will need Feed, Rugs, Grooming equipment and Halter and Lead Rope.

Q: Where do I buy my feed from?

A: You will need to buy your food from a local Fodder Store or Farmers in your area.

Q: Where do I find the equipment I need to ride my horse?

A: You will need Saddlery.

How to Join SPPHASA

Q: How do I join?

A: If you go to our Joining SPPHASA Page information you require is there.

1.       Click on Membership form and download.  Send your information to the address at top of page and can either send a cheque, money order or bank transfer into bank account information supplied.  Always document you receipt number as you will need to put this on your form for conformation of payment.

2.   Your Membership Card will be sent to you. This card is to be used when you go to SPPHASA EVENTS OR SPONSORED SPPHASA EVENTS. Non SPPHASA EVENTS you are only entitled to put in your points on your High Points Performance Card to be entitled for End of Year Awards. (This information can be found at our State High Points page.)

 

Q: Do you need to be a member and horse registered to compete in the SPPHASA ring?

A: Yes you do.  You will need to be a member and horse registered to compete in an event that is run by SPPHASA or a Sponsored SPPHASA ring or event.

 

Q: How do I register my horse?

A: If you go to our Joining SPPHASA Page information you require is there.

Q: Are part breds allowed to be registered and compete in standardbred classes?

A: No at the stage.  SPPHASA will be looking into this in the future.  So when we have more details it will be posted on our site.

What can I do with my horse.

 

Q: What can I do with my STANDARDBRED?

A: There are many discipline’s you may choose to do with your horse. From Trailing Riding, Showing, Jumping, Endurance, Dressage, Horsemanship, Novelties, Carriage driving, Harness Show Horse, Western, Rodeo’s and Stock Horse Work.

(SPPHASA as a Breed Society encourage a Life After Racing and the STANDARDBRED can do all these discipline’s)

 

Q: How do I decide what I want to do?

A: First we recommend you get to know your horse.  Then when you are ready, start coming to our events and we can help you along the way with your journey with your STANDARDBRED.

Q: What do judges look for in the show ring?

A: We have a document on our Events and Programs page called Judging the Standardbred. Download it and have a read.


Q: If I go to a STANDARDBRED SHOW will I be covered for insurance from SPPHASA?

A: No. Your insurance with SPPHASA only covers you for SPPHASA Events.
